Sir Walter Raleigh once wrote, I can’t write a book commensurate with Shakespeare, but I can write a book by me.
Well, this is a trend I decide to follow.
Tell me something; when you were a child did you want to emulate your favourite heroes, wishing you could be as strong, as beautiful, as smart, or as self- sufficient as they were? Do you still put up people on pedestal and wish you could just be like them?
In striving for imitation of others, you neglect your own uniqueness. By looking around you at what everyone else has, you ignore what you have. In focusing your energy and attention on others rather than on yourself, you hinder your ability to discover your own skills and talents.
Rather than envy the qualities others possess, why not discover your own unique qualities and talents that make you who you are? To find out what they are, create a “victory list” – a compilation of your successes and the things you have done in your life that have given you great satisfaction. A victory could be major, such as living a bad relationship or changing jobs, or it could be a daily achievement such as making time for you. It doesn’t matter whether the victories are big or small or how they compare to what others have done. What matters is how they make you feel.
I know it’s not relaxing to strive to be anyone else but myself. So join me to make a discussion today to be more comfortable with who we are and not stress about who we’d like to be.
